At Rein In Sarcoma, we believe that health equity is not optional — it is essential. Our Health Equity Committee is dedicated to making sure that every person affected by sarcoma—no matter their background, ZIP code, income, or identity—has fair access to diagnosis, care, support, and opportunity.
We aim to identify and dismantle barriers in awareness, access, treatment, survivorship, and research so that no one is left behind in our mission.
Our Commitment & Purpose
Health equity means that everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive sarcoma. It requires recognizing and addressing structural, systemic, and social disparities that create inequities in cancer outcomes.
Our Committee’s purpose is to:
- Assess and monitor sarcoma-related disparities (by race, geography, socioeconomic status, rural vs. urban, disability, etc.).
- Advocate for equitable access to diagnostics, clinical trials, and specialized care.
- Ensure that our programs, grants, and outreach prioritize underserved and historically marginalized communities.
- Embed an equity lens into all Rein In Sarcoma initiatives—research funding, patient programs, education, and volunteer engagement.
- Partner with community organizations, clinicians, and patients to co-create solutions rooted in lived experience.
Why Health Equity Matters
- Although sarcoma is a rare cancer, disparities can still emerge in:
- Awareness & Early Diagnosis — some communities may lack access to quality imaging, specialist referrals, or health literacy.
- Specialized Care & Clinical Trials — distance, cost, insurance barriers, or lack of diversity in trial populations may limit inclusion.
- Support & Resources — access to transportation, lodging, caregiver support, or financial assistance may vary.
- Research Representation — if clinical trials and studies don’t include diverse populations, outcomes may not generalize.
- By proactively addressing these issues, we aim to make our mission stronger—so that every person with sarcoma has equitable access to hope, care, and progress.
