Diagnosis & Treatment

A sarcoma diagnosis can feel overwhelming—but understanding the process and available treatments can help patients and families navigate the path ahead with confidence. Rein In Sarcoma provides educational resources and real patient stories to guide you through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

The Diagnostic Process

Early and accurate diagnosis is key to effective treatment. Because sarcomas are rare and can appear anywhere in the body, a proper diagnosis often requires a combination of tests and expert evaluation.

Common Treatment Options

Sarcoma treatment is tailored to each patient, depending on the type, size, location, and stage of the cancer. Most patients receive a combination of treatments led by a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
Surgery

Surgical removal of the tumor is often the first line of treatment. Whenever possible, surgeons aim to remove all cancer cells while preserving nearby tissue and function.

Radiation Therapy

High-energy rays are used to target and destroy cancer cells. Radiation may be used before surgery to shrink tumors or after surgery to eliminate remaining cancer cells.

Chemotherapy

Drugs are used to attack cancer cells throughout the body. Chemotherapy may be recommended for certain types of sarcoma or if the cancer has spread.

Targeted and Immunotherapies

Newer treatments, including targeted drugs and immunotherapies, focus on specific cancer cell markers or boost the body’s immune response to fight sarcoma more effectively.
